ObjectivesTo determine the association between physical activity (PA) and subjective cognitive complaints (SCCs), and the influential factors in this association.DesignCross-sectional study.Setting and ParticipantsCommunity-based data of the World Health Survey, which included 248,504 individuals from 47 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), were analyzed [mean age = 38.6 (standard deviation 16.1) years; 50.7% female].MethodsPA was assessed with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Participants were grouped into those who meet (high PA) the 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA per week recommendation, and those who do not (low PA). Two questions on subjective memory and learning complaints in the past 30 days were used (scales ranged from 1 to 5, with higher scores representing more severe SCC). Multivariable ordinal logistic regression and mediation analyses were performed.ResultsOverall, after adjusting for sociodemographic and a wide range of behavioral, psychological, and physical factors, low PA was associated with a higher risk for having more severe subjective memory complaints [odds ratio (OR) = 1.10, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.04-1.23] and learning complaints (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.12-1.26). Significant associations were only observed among the middle-aged (45-64 years; learning complaints OR = 1.19, 95% CI = 1.06-1.33) and older populations (≥65 years; memory complaints OR = 1.31, 95% CI = 1.15-1.49, and learning complaints OR = 1.41, 95% CI = 1.24-1.60). Chronic physical conditions, sleep problems, depression, and anxiety explained between 7.7% and 29.4% of the PA-SCC association among those aged ≥45 years.Conclusions and ImplicationsLow PA was associated with increased odds for more severe SCCs in middle-aged and older adults in LMICs. Given the particularly rapid increase in dementia in LMICs, more longitudinal research is warranted from this setting to understand the utility of PA promotion in the prevention of cognitive impairment.  相似文献

Altholactone exhibited the anti-fungal activity with a high MIC value of 128 μg ml?1 against Cryptococcus neoformans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Fifteen ester derivatives of altholactone 115 were modified by esterification and their structures were confirmed by spectroscopic methods. Most of the ester derivatives exhibited stronger anti-fungal activities than that of the precursor altholactone. 3-Bromo- and 2,4-dichlorobenzoates (7 and 15) exhibited the lowest minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values against C. neoformans at 16 μg ml?1, while the 4-bromo-, 4-iodo-, and 1-bromo-3-chlorobenzoates (1113) displayed potent activity against S. cerevisiae with MIC values of 1 μg ml?1. In conclusion, this analysis indicates that the anti-fungal activity of altholactone is enhanced by addition of halogenated benzoyl group to the 3-OH group.  相似文献

In this paper, an antimycobacterial component of extracellular metabolites of a gut bacterium Raoultella ornithinolytica from D. veneta earthworms was isolated and its antimycobacterial action was tested using Mycobacterium smegmatis. After incubation with the complex obtained, formation of pores and furrows in cell walls was observed using microscopic techniques. The cells lost their shape, stuck together and formed clusters. Surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy analysis showed that, after incubation, the complex was attached to the cell walls of the Mycobacterium. Analyses of the component performed with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy demonstrated high similarity to a bacteriocin nisin, but energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy analysis revealed differences in the elemental composition of this antimicrobial peptide. The component with antimycobacterial activity was identified using mass spectrometry techniques as a glycolipid–peptide complex. As it exhibits no cytotoxicity on normal human fibroblasts, the glycolipid–peptide complex appears to be a promising compound for investigations of its activity against pathogenic mycobacteria.  相似文献

The present article reports the preparation, characterization and performance evaluation of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) based on polyoxyethylene-40 stearate (PEG-40 stearate) for the administration of antifungal agents such as ketoconazole and clotrimazole. These nanoparticles could be useful in the treatment of vaginal infections sustained by Candida albicans. In particular, PEG-40 stearate was made to react with acryloyl chloride in order to introduce an easily polymerizable moiety for the creation of a second shell and to ensure a slow drug release. In addition, the differences on the release profiles between PEG-40 stearate-based nanoparticles, PEG-40 stearate acrylate based and polymerized ones, were analyzed under conditions, simulating the typical environment of Candida albicans infection. Then, the antifungal activity of nanoparticles was also evaluated in terms of minimal inhibitory concentration. Moreover, the nanoparticles were submitted to in vitro studies for evaluating the drug permeability at the site of action. Results indicated that the obtained particles are potentially useful for the treatment of vaginal infections sustained by Candida albicans.  相似文献

The rue (Ruta graveolens) copiousness in rural areas of the Campania Region based a thorough chemical and biological investigation aimed at exploring the seasonal variability of phenol constituents in rue leaves and its influence on their antioxidant, cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory capabilities. To this purpose, hydroalcoholic extracts were prepared from plant samples seasonally collected. LC-ESI-MS/MS techniques were employed to analyze qualitatively and quantitatively the seasonal rue phenol content, whereas different chemical antioxidant assays (by DPPH, ABTS, Fe3+ RP, ORAC, and FCR methods) and XTT redox metabolic activity assay were performed to screen the seasonal phenol complex-related antioxidant and cytotoxic power. The ability of the rue leaf extracts to counteract cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression was also evaluated. Data obtained highlighted that the adopted extraction procedure markedly pauperized the furanocoumarin content in all the prepared rue extracts. Flavonol glycosides, along with the flavone acacetin and two sinapic acid derivatives were the main constituents of the spring harvest-derived extract, which exerted the highest antioxidant capability in cell-free systems and was capable to inhibit COX-2 synthesis by 44% comparably to dexamethasone, used as positive control. Data provide new insights for developing a proper management of rue plants for new safe industrial purposes in herbal medicine field.  相似文献

The baroreflex is a critical physiological mechanism controlling cardiovascular function by modulating both the sympathetic and parasympathetic activities. Here, we report that electrical activation of the baroreflex attenuates joint inflammation in experimental arthritis induced by the administration of zymosan into the femorotibial cavity. Baroreflex activation combined with lumbar sympathectomy, adrenalectomy, celiac subdiaphragmatic vagotomy or splenectomy dissected the mechanisms involved in the inflammatory modulation, highlighting the role played by sympathetic inhibition in the attenuation of joint inflammation. From the immunological standpoint, baroreflex activation attenuates neutrophil migration and the synovial levels of inflammatory cytokines including TNF, IL-1β and IL-6, but does not affect the levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. The anti-inflammatory effects of the baroreflex system are not mediated by IL-10, the vagus nerve, adrenal glands or the spleen, but by the inhibition of the sympathetic drive to the knee. These results reveal a novel physiological neuronal network controlling peripheral local inflammation.  相似文献
